Pottery Workshop and BBQ Dinner

We started off the day looking at the embryos we treated with different chemicals previously on Saturday December 28th. We looked at each embryo in each well to see what stage they were in for heart failure. There are different ways to categorize what stage the embryos are in when looking for heart failure. Category 1 essentially being dead, as the heart has collapsed, there is a cardiac edema ( when space around the heart gets bigger and fills with fluid), the yoke sac is black and decaying, and the atrium is barely pumping. Up until you reach Category 4 where the heart is beating extremely well, no cardiac edema, and the embryos are thriving. In these two particular pictures, the one labelled C2 has 4 embryos which are in category 3 of heart failure, and 1 embryo that is in category 4. In the picture labeled 3A, all those embryos are dead. Unfortunately, we think there may have been a contamination of fungus in this well resulting in our results. We finally got the opportunit

What is there to do on a Rainy day?

We went to Ximen which was a mid town tourist attraction area. We visited a lot of different vendors, seen some beautiful pieces of jewelry that was easily over priced, and ate some delicious food as always. We had the opportunity to go and see Dr. Huangs house he grew up in, which is where his Dad and brothers still live. From there we went and had a dumpling dinner, which was super good. We had some different flavored dumplings, from cabbage and pork, spicy Korean, to curry and shrimp filled dumplings. Due to the rain, we didn't do some of the originally planned activities, but the improvised activities were just as great.  We finished up the day with some more food, and then went swimming, which I will go into more details about later. If you are wondering, no we didn't play any games, because we don't get to convert our USD into Taiwanese Dollars until Monday. (Tomorrow). So we just did this to look cute.  Best strawberry smoothie I have ever had. Ev

From left to Right we have our amazing professor Dr. Haung, Anna, Kaylee, Me, and Mikayla. We are missing one more person, but she will be joining us a little later. Ready to explore, even though we all only got about 3 hours of sleep. We also got our local numbers today, so I got a Sim card that gives me unlimited data , and allows me to text and communicate with everyone on the trip with our Taiwanese  numbers.  We started off our day traveling to this academic building as this is where the Zebra fish we will be using in our research our housed. Inside of this building where many Taiwanese Students go to class, contains the lab where we set up our first chemical treatment on the Zebra Fish embryos. Here is a picture of some Zebra Fish Embryos under a dissecting microscope. As you can see there are clear outer casing around either a brown or yellow colored embryo. The brown ones are dead. We extracted a total of 80 or so of the alive embryos to use in the experiment, usin

From left to right, you see a Four Cheese Ravioli, Caprese Salad, and a dinner roll. I really enjoyed this meal. We had a couple of option to chose from, but I thought id play it safe since its Airplane food. I definitely smashed this meal though. This Roasted Tomato and Mozzarella Burschetta was just the right snack as we approached the half way mark of our 13 hour flight. I think this was a solid 8 out of 10. OMGGG. When I tell you this Ice cream was the perfect dessert, I was truly sadden when I found my spoon touching the bottom of the container. Thankfully, my friend Kaylee doesnt like cookie dough, so I was able to scoop her ice cream right off her hands. This was our Almost there/ Farewell breakfast. It included some fruit, yogurt, and a Egg and Swiss cheese sandwich. Not going to lie, the sandwich was not my favorite, but the rest was really good.  We followed these escalator to our gate inside of the South Korean Airport. I think the United States has som
