Sunday Fun Day

I got the opportunity to meet up with a friend who I haven't seen in almost 2 years. Linda and I met at University of Wisconsin River Falls, and spent lots of time dancing and performing on campus. When she graduated from our University, I didn't know when Id see her again, especially since she moved to New York. Well, I found out that she actually returned back to Taiwan not to long ago, and I really wanted to reunite with her again. So we did.

Linda took me to her friends dance performance. This particular performance included students from all over Taipei. This was a show case for all the high schools in Taipei. So, students from every high school came and showed off their dancing skills.  They were all amazing, and surprisingly all the songs were in English. My friend Linda says they enjoy using English music as its better suited for their dance routines. They were dancing to Beyonce, Chris Brown, James Brown, and many other artist I was familiar with.  

Then me and Linda walked around the city. The weather was beautiful. We also decided to go to a Thai restaurant where we had rice, papaya salad, green curry soup, fish, spring rolls, shrimp cake, a different type of soup, and stir fried chicken wrapped in lettuce. While it sounds like way too much food for the two of us, we actually met back up with some of her friends and all ate together. 

Since Sunday is our free day, I decided after visiting my friend to do some Laundry. Now I am going to bed early so I can get some rest for the long day ahead of us tomorrow.

Thin Layer Chromatography results

We started with running thin layer chromatography of every single sample we collected from the day before during the medium pressure liquid chromatography. We had 52 tubes of samples, but not every tube was filled with enough product to run a TLC. This first TLC depicted is our 1st tube being ran on normal phase plates, instead of the reverse phase plates we used previously. As you continue to look down this page you will see that our numbers bounce around, and some numbers are skipped, because there wasn't enough to test it. We started off with only placing 1 collection of compounds on each plate, to doing two different compounds, and realizing due to our graph from yesterday that a lot of our compounds have kind of stuck together. So, we have a great deal of compounds that look similar and in order to tell we need bigger plates. Taipei Zoo | Chocolate shakes

Just like before, we went to the lab to analyze our zebra fish embryos. The last time we were in the lab, we treated each grouping of fish with a different chemical. I do not know what each chemical was intended to do, but we analyzed the fish by categorizing each embryos into the certain stages of heart failure. The other group wasn't as lucky as a lot of their embryos were dead. After we finished up our analysis, we were off to see Taipei 101 (the place where the fireworks happened for bringing in the new year), then the Taipei zoo, and then we finished off the day riding a gondola up into the mountains where we enjoyed a tea dinner.  The yellow arrow is pointing at an embryo that looks disfigured compared to the other embryos in that well.
